Phil Coulter
Ireland's # 1 Composer

The Man and His Music
With Special Guest
Geraldine Branagan

Phil Coulter is one of the most enduring figures in the music industry. From writing million selling pop hits begnning in the 1960’s like Puppet on a String, down through the decades with such brilliant songs like  My Boy and The Town I Loved So Well, to performing with some of the worlds’ leading orchestras in the first decade of the 21st century, the range of his work is as impressive as his staying power.

During a career spanning four decades, Phil has shown an unerring ability to catch the public’s ear. Witnessed by his huge collection of gold and platinum albums, his songs have been covered by a litany of stars from Sinead O’Connor to Elvis Presley, and his production skills have been called on by iconic performers across the board from Van Morrison to Sir James Galway.  In recent years, he  also teamed up to direct one of Ireland's hottest groups Celtic Thunder.

Coulter’s success as a recording artist and orchestra conductor has been equally as consistent. In his native Ireland, he is the biggest selling instrumentalist of all time and has taken his particular blend of orchestra music around the world. His albums have enjoyed long periods on the Billboard Music Charts, and he has jointed the distinguished band of Grammy nominees.

With his own Irish Pops Orchestra, Phil has notched up several sold-out tours in the U.S. packing prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, The Chicago Theatre, and on a number of occasions, The White House. He has been a guest of several world-class orchestras including The American National Symphony on the Symphony extravaganza A Capital Fourth, and the Norwegian National Symphony at the Nobel Peace Awards.

This season, Coulter will present his One-Man Show The Man and His Music – and his special guest will be one of Ireland’s best loved female vocalists, Geraldine Branagan – Phil’s gorgeous wife, and mother of their six children! With a string of hit records behind her like When Will I be Loved and Take Me Back, number one albums in South Africa, being the first to entertain the Irish troops in Lebanon, she took it all in stride, pausing only to be regularly photographed for the covers of glossy magazines.  Geraldine then took some time to raise their family, but has begun to perform again in recent years with performances at The National Concert Hall Dublin, Cork Opera House, she also toured America a year ago. Geraldine never lost her love of music and performing, and is delighted to tour this season with her beloved husband.

The story of this dynamic couple is itself the stuff of love songs. They met in the 1970's when Coulter was searching for the perfect vocalist to sing his newest song TOI, co-written by the great French composer Pierre Cour, which would be presented at a Eurovision Song Contest. He found Branagan, who performed it beautifully, and the rest is history!
